The current Biathlon season is referred to as season 2026. The season will run from September 2025 until April 2026.
During this season, athletes will participate in age groups according to their ages as at 31 December 2026.

Affiliation is required for the following reasons:
– Authorises athletes to participate at Gauteng North League events free of charge
– Registers the athlete with the Gauteng North and South African Biathlon Associations
– Authorises athletes to represent Gauteng North province at Inter-Provincial and National competitions
All athletes must be affiliated before any of these events (which ever occurs first for your athlete):
– Before their 2nd league of the season,
– Before any inter-provincial,
– At latest 22 November 2025
Without affiliation, an athlete may not complete a second league event, nor can they represent the province at Inter-Provincial level or National Championships.
Athletes who are trying biathlon for the first time will be permitted to enter their first league free of charge, without obligation to affiliate. Returning athletes will be committed to affiliation and payment per above statements.
Affiliated athletes have free access to all GN Biathlon League Meets.
Visitors from other provinces are always welcome to join our events at a flat cash fee of R100.
Your season affiliation fee includes:
1. Season Affiliation to GN Biathlon
2. Free entry to all 8 GN League events per season
Affiliation excludes:
1. All Inter-Provincial entries
2. GN Champs entry
3. SA Champs entry

After completing Steps 1 and 2, you are ready to enter the season.
1. Free access to all GN Biathlon events:
The benefit applies to League Meets only. Interprovincial and National Championship entry fees will still be charged at full rates.
2. Recognition by the South African Biathlon Association:
The athlete will be recognised by SA Biathlon as a member of the Gauteng North Biathlon Association and will be authorised to represent the province at any interprovincial meets. Entry fees to inter-provincial events will still apply.
3. Enter your chosen event
Affiliated athletes still need to enter for the events they plan to attend.
Method of entry is online only.

NB: Affiliation does not mean automatic entry. Athletes still need to enter for the events they wish to attend.

Verifying your entry is a 3 step process:
1. Check that you receive a copy of your entry form from Google Forms (check your spam/junk folder also)
2. Ensure that your athlete’s name shows on the entries list at least 2 days before the event. The list will be shared on the Events page and on the WhatsApp group.
3. Verify your athlete’s heat numbers on the final heats sheet for both the run and swim before arriving.
When arriving at the event on competition day, athletes will be required to:
1. All athletes must arrive at the given registration time to collect an event armband.
2. Athletes must write down their age group and heat details as shared in the WhatsApp group. Markers will be provided.
Format for writing: [Biathlon Age Group / Run heat no / Swim heat no. & Swim lane no] (in that order).
Practical example: You athlete is under 13. They will be running in heat 11 and swimming in heat 16, lane 4
Write on armband: “U13 / R11 / S16 L4”
Don’t forget to bring your running and swimming kit!
When you choose the volunteer’s affiliation rate, your options for offering asssistance will be as follows:
– Marshalling (Calling out and organising of heats for their races at running or swimming)
– Starting Official (Starting the running or swimming races)
– Timekeeping (Either at running or swimming)
– Placements Official (Handing out of placement cards at running)
– Field Assistant (Returning placement cards to Placement Officials)
– Chief Timekeeper (at running or swimming)
– Corner Judge (ensure athletes don’t cut the corners at running)
– Turn Judge (ensure athletes turn at the wall at swimming)
– Photographer (taking photos of the events which may be shared on social media)
In order to complete your commitment as a volunteer, a parent or guardian must volunteer 3 turns.
*All roles will be explained to volunteers at events.
There is a Provincial and National Biathlon Schools competition every season.
Each season, Gauteng North’s top Biathlon Primary and High School (up to 2 of each) will be chosen and given the opportunity to compete for the National Biathlon Schools Trophy at the South African Championships. More info here: Biathlon Schools
If a school is interested being part of the Provincial Schools Biathlon:
1. The school should contact Gauteng North Biathlon and indicate their interest to compete.
2. The school should provide a contact / representative in charge of coordinating the school team.
3. Method of entry for Schools is via the online links provided on the events page.
Remember to ensure that your athletes enter the school’s name and also state whether it is primary or high school. A list of entries per school can be provided on request.
